Anyone ever use these? http://cgi.ebay.com …6.c0.m14#ebayphotohosting (external link) Just wondering if it's worth the considerable cost savings. I've bought a few other Ebay items from China before with good results.

There's a thread that mentions them somewhere around here, but I couldn't find it with search. Also do a search for "battery pack ebay" using the search tool.

If it's the real Canon version of the battery pack it's worth it. I have one for my 580EX and my 580EXII (same battery pack works for either one), and I love it. I shoot weddings and have been able to fire off 500 images before I need to change the batteries in the battery pack.
Just a note: if you do get it, make sure your camera settings (via Custom Function) allow you to pull power from both the external and in-flash battery packs.

It's not the genuine Canon one. I own the 30D, not sure if it allows to pull power from both external and in flash battery. I'll have to check. I'll also search for "battery pack ebay". Thanks!

Do those decrease the "recharge time" between shots?
Or is it just to increase number of total shots?

I'm looking for something to decrease time between shots - not looking for "machine-gun" speed, but something better then the 3-5 seconds I currently get with four rechargeables. Have "shopped" Quantum Turbo and they are just too expensive.

The CP-E4 battery pack (external link) decreases recharge time by 2/3.

The non-OE one has less cells, I think that the Canon one takes 8, and the Hong Kong version takes 6, IIRC. I'd imagine that you get less life from teh non-OE one.

Its pretty much the same as the old Compact Battery Pack CP-E2
Small and lightweight external power source. It uses six size-AA alkaline or
nickel-hydride batteries. It can also use lithium batteries.

I ordered one about a week ago and am waiting for it to get here. Tim is right, there is another thread about it (that pursuaded me to get it). One of the posters advised that they had good luck with the yong nuo made canon accessories from hong kong.

You might to a search for yong nuo.

There you go:

https://photography-on-the.net …=573629&highlight=yongnuo

Angel_LCD has had good luck with YongNuo items: "Actually YongNuo makes great quality Canon accessories, I own several of their OC-E3 cords and they are just as good as the Canon ones. You can get the CP-E4 clone as low as $35, that is over $100 lower then the one made in the factory next door to YoungNuo "
