halloween shots. What could I have done better?

Hey guys, just looking for some input. Went out for Halloween and brought the camera with me.

Was shooting iso 1250, 12mm, f8, at around 1/10th of a second usually (for close hyperfocal distance, no need to worry about focusing).

Flash was off camera, sto-fen'd w/ full CTO gel, camera set to tungsten WB. Usually holding it over head at around 1/8th power.

I would like to get "cleaner" edges on my people next time. Just drag the shutter less?

I would drag the shutter less. 1/10s you are going to get quite a bit of ambient exposure (especially at ISO1250), and therefore motion blur from that ambient exposure.

I think the blurs are from the slow shutter speed, which allows the ambient light to expose the background. You can use a faster shutter speed and freeze the subject more.

If you are using flash you should be able to get enough light onto the subject to shoot at a lower ISO which may give you a better image quality/less noise as well.

I personally like to shoot at a lower aperture and use the AF point to focus on the subject myself but using an ultrawide at f8 set to infinity is probably safe as well for the most part unless the subjects are pretty close.
