i really like that 3rd shot! something doesn't seem right about the amount of blurred background in the 2nd shot. maybe cropping part of the top section would help here. last shot looks great too.

no its not a crop. i don't think i've ever cropped my photos.. never thought about it actually. the only thing i photoshop or post edit is watermarks. which my last two dont have them cause i didn't feel like re-uploading them to photobucket.

Yep. The last shot is best. The closeup of the seed pods would be better if the background wasn't so distracting. The flag shot is nice, perfect color and exp on my calibrated monitor.

Look into cropping, it's amazing how it can transform some plain shots into very interesting shots. On the other hand if you do a good job of composing in the camera then you're already ahead of the game!

You're not the person that posted that ridiculous HDR on the nation, are you?

Anyways, I like the first flower shot. It just has a little something that most flower shots do not. It's not fantastic, but it's a good shot.

I'm not liking the black and white barn. The conversion is so bland. There is no true black and white, and even very little variation in your greys. Very, very bland. Redo the conversion, and straighten it out a bit, then you might have something.

I also like the DOf on the angel, and the water lily would have been better as a whole.its a beaut of a color.

Then there is your problem. If you ever want a black and white shot to be dramatic at all, ALWAYS shoot in color, then do a black and white conversion in photoshop. Go to the photo subforum on the nation, and look at the sticky's at the top; one of them has a very detailed description of how to do a proper black and white conversion. You can get much more dramatic black and whites by doing a conversion; a camera almost never renders the same results.
