Guys,

one of my friends have a 300 mm F2.8 L which he has been using since last few years, he says that its sharpness and quality has detoriated overtime, he was asking me whether Canon callibrate the lenses when send to them.

Is there anything like that? Can anybody let me know.

Have you thought about calling Canon to ask them yourself?

Yes, they do calibration services. For more information call your local Canon service center.

I just sent my camera and lenses to Canon for calibration. They all came back eye-poppingly sharp (well, the images that I take with them, that is...)

How often do you have to calibrate your lens?

6 hour trip? Screw that. Pack it well & insure it. No problems.

The stuff ships all over the world from Japan. It can handle a short ride on a UPS truck.

sheesh... with the money spent on Canon lens's, why would someone have to expect to send it back to be calibrated?? Are they shipping out junk? If I spend $1,000 + on a lens- I want it done right the first time...there should be an investigation into this

Out of the box? Sure. But moving parts can get knocked out of alignment over time. That's not Canon's fault. It happens to a lot of things, not just camera gear.

I agree with you on that point but I hear alot of people having problems out of the box.

It's usually user error in those cases.
