Name all the prime lens one should own?

Hey gang, I would like to know all the prime lens one should own since I may be looking at a few more primes.

Right now I own the tamron 17-55mm lens as my first prime lens.

So what other primes should some one consider buying?

A 17-55mm lens wouldn't be a prime. As far as a great prime to own, I think the Canon 50 1.4 is a great piece of glass. Not too expensive, great for low light and very nice IQ.

The 17-55mm is a Zoom lens and not a Prime which is a fixed lenght lens.

tamron doesn't have a 17-55 either.

How come it's not a prime?

The guy at the canon store said it was a prime when I've purchased it.

By the way how much is the nifty 50?

Opps please forgive my stupidity I just looked at it's a 17-50mm lens damn I feel so stupid now.

A "prime" lens in common photography terms is a lens which does not zoom. The 17-55 and 17-50 you just mentioned zoom while the 50mm 1.4 on the other hand does not, making it a prime. Prime is pretty much used interchangeably with the term "fixed focal length."

A prime is a lens with a single focal length. (looking at my lenses, primes would be the Sigma 30 f/1.4, Canon 85 f/1.2L, Sigma 150 macro, Oly 28 f/3.5, Pentax 50 f/1.4) You have a standard zoom.
