(with tripod type legs)

http://www.ritzcamera.com …tsearch&utm_source=google (external link)

It would appeal to me because often when I work the cruise ship assignments I have some "me" time at the ports of call. Unfortunately the "me" time comes after the "everyone else" time and I am normally already off the ship and out in the city/area of visitation. So it makes running back to fetch my tripod a bit difficult.

Something like this would appeal to me because I could carry it with me and open/close it very fast. Only one column to extend (vs three on a tripod) and it is quite a bit smaller.

Plus some areas of interest in Europe will not allow you a tripod on the sites at all, no matter if you have your camera attached to it or not. But they allow monopods. (don't ask me why, I can't figure it out.)

So my question is has anyone tried this kind of tripod? I think Bogen makes a 682 or 862 (something like that). It doesn't have to be fancy, just something I can mount a xti or 40d and tamron 17-50 2.8 or 70-200 f4 on and use it for a few minutes, break down and move to the next location quickly.

thanks.

Never tried one.... However as a tripod substitute in areas where you can't use tripods, keep in mind..... This thing has 3 legs......

If you get one, let us know how it works

Yeah, I know about the three legs... I can still use it as a monopod while in the museums and churches and then when out of them, have a (I hope) somewhat decent tripod to use for landscapes and such.

Looks like an accident waiting to happen...

Use a monopod as a monopod.

Use a tripod as a tripod.
