Did ya'll take a look at their pricing on other batteries? They're all outrageously high. They've got the 1D(s) MkIII battery for $250. I don't think that place is a very good judge of what the street price will be. Everyone relax... :)

They might be able to make a battery that will power the item, but it won't supply information to the camera, as the 5D2 batteries will supply information up to six batteries to camera.

That's nuts but then again the body is almost 3K, whats another couple of hundred.

yup...that's pretty much the idea...kinda like tripod collars costing close to 100 bucks for the 70-200...if you can afford the hardware, you can be forced to shell out outrageous prices for the cheap little gadgets...

Don't be surprised if the chip in the battery is required for the camera to "accept" the battery and operate at all. Just another way for Canon to bring in some extra cash, as the sole supplier of batteries for the 5DmkII, in these hard economic times.

The guy who buys a 3K camera should not worry that a battery to run it costs $200.

Get the XSi if you do.

Bzzztt...everything adds up. Not all of us are flush pros with silly money to burn. $200 could get you a couple of nice filters, or other actually useful accessories.

It's the same with people who pay $30-$40K or more for a car and then cry that they have to use premium gas.

But that $200 is BS for a battery, that site is overpriced.

I hope this is some kind of error or fluke.

Canon is running a scam with these things. Kind of like how printer companies charge you $50 for ink refills on a $45 printer.

soooo what you're saying is just because someone wants a good camera, they should pay $200 for a battery that costs $3 to manufacture? You're every greedy capitalist's dream.
