Well first of all it's a Canadian site, so subtract 20%. Secondly, they are renowned for having high prices. They have 1dmk2 batteries for $249CND vs $119USD at BH..

I think I would rather not know the full charging history of the battery....in fact do we need such information?

Sterlingtek will have a clone in a month after release. I did find it funny seeing the new specs from Canon "30% Performance Gain!!!! In Normal temps, this battery will take 800 shots, versus the 750 of a 5D" I haven't taken calculus in a while, but that don't seem quite right :)

Well it does say "1800 milliamp-hours capacity, vs. 1390 mAh for the previous-generation BP-511A." which is a 29.5% increase.

"LP-E6 powers the camera for 850 shots at normal temperatures (vs. 800 for the EOS 5D)" I guess that means the Mark II eats more battery per picture taken than the Mark I, a 21.9% increase in battery consumption per photo in fact.

The LP-E6 is advertised at £60.00 here. That's about $100.00 in the US. Typically though we pay much more than 50/60% of the price you pay. So if it's £60.00 here I would imagine you'll be able to get one for about $80.00.

That sound a lot better than $200+ right?

Be serious please!

On one hand I could agree, but this price for THIS battery is just plain robbery, I can get my 1DMKIII batteries under this price and they are worth a lot more in many ways, not least up to about 4,000 shots per charge.

The guy who buys a 3K camera should not worry that a battery to run it costs $200.

Get the XSi if you do.

soooo what you're saying is just because someone wants a good camera, they should pay $200 for a battery that costs $3 to manufacture? You're every greedy capitalist's dream.

I think it's a great feature. I have 3 BP-511A batteries that I have purchased over the course of 3+ years, but I have no idea which is which, or what the health of any of them are. With the 5D MKII you'll have all the info you could need from each battery, and the camera knows which is which. Awesome.

Give Phottix time to create an aftermarket one. I have the LP-E4 Phottix one as my backup to the Canon one, and it works identically to the Canon one, both in camera and in charger. I actually bought a few based on reviews due to my desire to have some spares, and it turns out since the MKIII is a battery miser, I am selling the leftover Phottix ones I have.

There will be other aftermarket ones as well, but I have tried many different Phottix items, and they have all been very good quality, at least the ones I have had anyways.

Other sources online have it estimated at around $95 USD. Still not great and only an estimated price, but better than $210. Luckily, one comes with the camera.

I've heard the same, or have read it at an authoritative site.

Adding insult to injury on the battery price (£60 UK), I was perusing the manual and Page 194 devotes itself to telling you how to get yourself a label about 25mm x 15mm and then looking at the info detail on the camera screen, WRITE DOWN the serial number on your label and stick it on the side of the battery with no electrical contacts on.
Then comes the warning "Do not affix the label on any part other than as shown in the illustration in step 2. Otherwise, the misplaced label might make it difficult to insert the battery or impossible to turn on the camera".
For £60 I would have expected the serial number to be ON the battery as well as IN the battery. Or maybe this is to keep its cost down, lol.

I can just see a year or so down the line when we are picking bits of gluey paper out of our camera battery chamber.
