So for the first time ever, most (not quite all) the major Division 1 College hockey teams in Minnesota met in one place - the XCEL Energy Center in St Paul.

And boy did my team take it up the ... nevermind, family forum here.

I'm the St Cloud State University student newspaper photographer, primarily covering sports.
First, things I learned:

A 300 2.8 on a 1.3 crop factor when I didn't think I could see far enough is in fact, just fine.

The 20D's AWB is remarkably accurate with professional arena lighting.

Your hands gradually start to hurt after shooting a football then two hockey games.

You can unexpectedly run into another Fred Miranda member - I met SAPierson there. Talked for a bit, then I accidentally gave up his seat :( Sorry!

The highlights are a little hot in some photos which is odd because most, if not all, were taken with the same settings.
Here we go..

After watching UMD destroy SCSU, I'm not sure I'd agree.

300 indeed, some with a 1.4 converter.

I mean the only reason UMD got a point in the series is that UAA gave them a 5 on 3, I'm of the opinion that head to head records should be accounted in rankings, but I guess thats not how college sports works... On a side note I can remember seasons when UAA had less WCHA points at the end of the season than they do now...

Anyway I really dig how you always seem to get the puck in the back of the net...

WOW Where were you shooting from? Excellent captures on all of these. I agree with the 20D's AWB, but I think a custom WB would have done you more justice. But that's being nit-picky. Did you use the 1DmII for any of these?

There's a "ledge" above the first about 30 rows of seats at the XCEL. Used both the 20D and the MKII.
