To add to the bargain hunting..... just picked up a new 40D body (kerso), second hand 70-200 F/4L (POTN sell forum) and Sandisk Extreme III 8Gb CF (eBay) all for $1100. ;-)a

Adding to that a 10-22mm F/3.5-4.5 and 17-55mm F/2.8 IS.

I think 'finally' I'm set! I'm off to NYC for 3 weeks next week, so I'll have a huge playground to go mad on.

It's not that the 50D is a bad camera, it IS better then the 40D but not by much like everyone says. The screen/display is one reason i orderd a 50D, should have one in a few days.

You can buy a new 40D from Canada for $830 CDN which works out to approx $655 US.
Full warranty and shipping isn't to much. http://www.adencamera.com …sp?ProdID=2041&Category=1 (external link)

Oh stars. If I was working right now, and hadn't just lost so much money on the lens I got burned on, I would be all over this :( I really want 2 40Ds ;)

Having owned my 40D for a year now, I am extremely happy that I bought it as my first DSLR. Thanks to this forum, I have built a good collection of lenses during the year and use each and every one of them.

In my opinion, you can not go wrong with this camera as an upgrade or first DSLR.

Used is OK, particularly from a reputable shop! I got a mint, used, boxed 40D from Walters Photo Video in the UK for £399 ($590), very pleased with that...:D They have a 30D for £342 if anyone's looking for that. Mifsuds also sells used and has a 40D for £429 and a 30D for £349.

7D and 60D, Sigma 12-24, Canons 24-105L, 100-400L, 50mm f1.4, 100mm Macro. 580EXII, Elinchrom Skyports, Eye-Fi, Apple Macs, iPhone 3GS, PS4, LR3. Socks and jeans with holes repaired.

I too picked up a used 40D for about 650USD. Two days later I found a great bargain for a used 5D, and ended up picking up that as well (about 1000USD). I come from the 350D - 30D, and honestly, both these new cameras are great bargain upgrades for me.

As already pointed, it is not that the 50D is a bad camera. But the price at which the 40Ds are selling make it worth every penny.

Having used the 40D for a little over 1 year, I highly recommend it. If you master the fundamentals of taking better photos, the camera will not disappoint you.

I just sold my 40D the other day - it was a great camera but considering how fast the price is dropping on it, I had to let it go in order to get some decent return on it. still, the house seems just a little bit empty without it....

Well, I just pulled the trigger on a 50D. Should be here Friday. Thought a lot about it and decided to just go with the 50D.
