This little fella crashed into my window. When I looked out, it was just laying in the ground cover, and there were several other little ones hopping around nearby...
I went outside, and picked it up. It was wheezing, with the beak was open slightly.
I stroked its back, soothed it, and brought it indoors for a bit. Within 10-15 minutes, it started wiggling around, and then it flew, very gently, I might add, to our book shelve. It let me lift it up, and it stood on my fingers for a bit..
After I was confident it was OK, I released it back outside, where it flew up into the trees; seemingly very normal..
I am in Pennsylvania, but have not had any luck getting an ID yet...
Thanks!

Agree with the ID as well. Looks like you have a female bird, as the males stripe on the top of the head would be black.

One of my favorite backyard birds. Definitely a white breasted nuthatch. What a cutie. I'm glad you were able to help it and make sure it was ok. Poor girl was probably just stunned. Hopefully she'll make a full recovery! :)
