Hello everyone,

I just thought that I would post some photos I took at the last AHL game I went to. This game was the first time that I had ever shot hockey. I was scrambling a lot to get my settings right since the lighting was not very good. C&C are welcome!!

Yeah. The jerseys are awesome. I was able to get Cody Bass's game used one from the post game auction.

wow, I'm truly impressed.

Are they with your 20D and 70-200 f4 ?

I was recently asked about doing some hockey, I was worried about my 20D and perhaps needing to high ISO.

really nice shots.

Lol yeah I have been up to Rochester for a few games last year. But I didn't take any photos, I was just getting autographs.

Nice work, but no goalie shots...
Total nitpicking here, but on shot #1 it would have worked awesome if you lost a little space to the left and caught the blade of the stick (like you did with each of your other shots). Overall, great work. I live just outside of Portland, Maine and have just started trying my hand at shots of the Pirates. I've been looking to try and acquire a 40d, but these shots are solid off the 20d. What aperture and shutter speed were you shooting at ?

Cool Halloween uniforms ! Are you able to bring in your rig right through the gate in Binghamton ? What kind of settings did you achieve ? I was at an earlier Crunch/Sens game, and the lighting appeared to be good. The lighting up here in Syracuse is great, but I max out with a 70-200 f4 @ 1600 on an XTi.

I love going up to Syracuse. I am planning on coming up this Saturday for the game vs. Chicago. Here were my settings for most of the photos: ISO 1600, M mode, f5.0, 1/200, AWB. I usually sit near the visiting teams ice entrance, but where else would be a good spot to take some photos?

Thanks,
Justin

Open up your aperture to the full f4 and you should be able to get a higher shutter speed which will help stop action. 1/200 is way too slow for hockey at pretty much any level. 1/400 or higher is better.

Justin,
That's exactly where my seat is (sec 23). Anywhere in the upper mezzanine (what the hell is a mezzanine anyway?) is good. You can try and shoot from behind the stage goal too,but the glass is usually filthy.
