I shoot most often in Aperture Priority, and i was thinking of getting a flash, probably the 430ex II, my question is when shooting in Av, does the flash correct itself when i shoot at various f stops. Or do i manually have to set it.

You can choose either to allow the camera to determine the flash exposure(TTL) or set it manually.

The 430EX II in ETTL, when connected to the camera hotshoe or with an off-shoe cord, will communicate with the camera and determine the amount of light needed.

The 430EX II can also be set to manual with you adjusting the power.

And after saying that I have to add that you would be much better off learning to use manual on the camera for flash photography.
