The Goldstar Karting event is held each year across 4 tracks in the North Island of NZ. Round 1 this year was at Taranaki on a beautiful sunny day - which is amazing considering the weather on Saturday was carp - blowing a gale and hammering down with rain.

All of the shots are pretty much straight out of the camera with just a little shapening and a touch of colour or recovery if the highlights got blown.

Any of the shots could have been taken from outside the track fencing which is typically waist high armco. I'm constantly amazed by the questions over how to get to media access to such-and-such a major event when there is karting all over the world that in the main at club level is ignored. It's a great place to start building a reputation and accreditation. But I'm waffling so I'll get on with the photos

1. Entries for the Cadet class are at an all time high this year. I do some times wonder who is racing Dad or the kid .... The kid without the crash helment is helping his younger brother start !

2. However, give them a few years and they grow - If Hayden Sarcich grows much more he'll need a longer kart. Hayden also gets all of the mistakes out of the way in free practice - Here he has just spun and as the Yamaha doesn't have a clutch it is bump start time

5. Kurt James ... A young man who may have a bright future - He is really enjoying his karting and has just moved up to the Junior Restricted class from Cadets. Looking at his trophies you see all kinds of big names on the cups that Kurt has won and in a couple of cases has set faster laps times.

6. The Brands Hatch crew would not be happy if there wasn't a pan shot <grin>

7. What happens when I have got all of the pre ordered stuff out of the way and decide to have some fun. How close can I get and still get a usable image ... well almost usable

8. Samuel Sarcich (Hayden's brother) - Mirror visors can make "ok" shots interesting
