Just back from a road trip to Eden then across the High country.
Tips, hints?

Thanks for looking.

I love the second one, except that the background looks like a completely different shot to the foreground. Would be cool if there was more contrast in the background..maybe?

What is the first, fallen tree? It might be cool in B&W.

The landscape is very good - a dramatic sky, an interesting foreground and an interesting mountain range.

In the first picture, the weathered wood seems to be too bright and as a result the much of the texture and detail are lost. If the wood were depressed some in value to that it is closer to middle gray, I think it would make for a much more dramatic picture, and it may do quite well also as a b & w.

If you were to enable editing, I wouldn't mind having a go at darkening it a bit.

Here's another attempt at the fallen tree.
BTW I'm also discovering a little more about LR2 and have just bought CS3.

Editing is on so go nuts folks.

Just wanted to see what my versions look like in comparison.
Looks like you got more contrast out of it than I did.
Cheers!

the second shot is good. Hdr is pushed up to the limit of my taste, but doesn't go over.

Canon "Snappy".... Thanks Mom and Dad!

Funny you should mention that as there wasn't any HDR technique used. I used a graduated filter and once uploaded I just upped the exposure and contrast in LR. I'm still looking into HDR techniques at the moment and don't have CS3 installed yet to take advantage of bracketed shots in a HDR technique.

Heh! Good stuff Robert.

I tried the B&W but the rock lost so much of the interest for me.
Thanks for the ideas folks. It's something else to look for in the future when I create these shots.

Thanks, it's solarized. I even use it for portraits sometimes.
