I wanted a min-tripod for shots when I was out with my family. I was lusting after the gorillapod for quite some time, and I finally got one. I must say, it was very disappointing. It is really cool in concept, but in practicality, the purpose I wanted to use it for, it was not very useful. I want it for when I am out and about with my family, I quickly put my camera down and snap a photo of us, while still enjoying our time out. I would spend more time setting this up and getting it to stand up properly more than anything. I is too frustrating to use for real world usage. It works, but just didnt work for the purpose I wanted it for, which is to quickly snap pictures of myself and family.

I have the Gorillapod SLR. I use it for limited applications like night shots in the city, but usually on a flat surface where the camera is not in danger if it slips down. It's not the greatest product ever, but it has helped me capture some shots that I couldn't have gotten otherwise. I trimmed the foam in the top of my Pelican case so it fits without intruding on the camera space.

I use mine to support my 7D when I am videoing my daughter's dance team performances. I wrap the legs around the walkway railing, no large tripod to deal with and far less camera shake. The first time I video'd without it,the video made me seasick-LOL

I got it for my G12 for super light weight walking trips.
I got the biggest heaviest one they sell in case I want to try sticking a bigger cam on it some day.
Really versatile.
Hooked it on the back of a chair and took a huge group shot.
Stuck it down in the middle of a garden and took some macro shots.
Popped a radio fired flash on it one time as well.

I use mine for remote flash more then anything, when hiking a mtb trail to shoot steep trails, not carrying a big tripod or light stand, this thing clamps to trees and gets the job done when I want to travel lighter.
