I'm also using the Brno BaLens, I actually prefer the cooler WB for almost all images, I understand the warmer dome was designed for portraiture. It's a big investment if you buy a WB cap for all your lenses.
I found the cheapest for me, was from ebay where I got the 72mm's and the 77mm for a good price.

1Dx, 1DM4, 5DM2, 7D, EOS-M, 8-15L, 17-40L, 24 TSE II, 24-105L, 50L, 85L II, 100L, 135L, 200L f/2.8, 300L f/4, 70-200L II, 70-300L, 400Lf/5.6

They are bloody expensive though Lannes. More so in the EU zone than America. Don't know what your prices are like in Oz. But seriously I think they are taking the 'p' with their prices for a bit of plastic.
>I still want one though<

God Bless The EU - You can take our lives but you will never get our cheese or our tea bags! Camera Stuff List - made under duress Canon Sx1 IS - Yes it is official I have a P&S making me a member of the underclass. Unclean! Unclean! You might have a big telephoto lens but I have a Janco Adapter - I don't blame you for being jealous. 3€ Neoprene Strap from China - its so soft. I won't hold it against you that you only have a DSLR

I've emailed Dörr already this morning regarding this...

Cool, thx!

I know, that's your pic I linked to above... ;)

Yeah, that was my next thought. I have 2x77mm, 1x67 & 1x52. Although they are all Canon lenses, they are not 100% equal in their slight color casts, so selecting WB with one will not necessarily deliver appropriate results with the other. I could of course buy the one 77mm cap and hold it in front of my smaller lenses, but that's a bit cheesy. I might as well buy cupcake holders / coffee filters, if I'm going to have to hold the bloody thing... .

Which is why I'm taking this odd-named "lally Cap (external link)" a bit more seriously. It works with all lenses (excl. hoods, of course) and costs $29 + shipping. It's a lot of $$$ for a piece of cloth, but assuming the elastic & stitching are of high quality, should last almost a lifetime (add your own rubber band when the time comes and it will last a lifetime... lol).

p.s. The above alternatives are of course coming from the "survey" Mike K. was kind enough to post above:

Yes, they are cool. It was Iannes' photo that got my attention. But I've decided to go with the Lally-cough-shower-cough-Cap (external link).*
I just hit the PayPal button ($34 with shipping).

*It'll be like the scene in Snatch (external link), where the Bobby [cop] asks, "is that a tea cozy on 'is 'ead?" roflmao!!!

I can look at it postively in that I am supporting a nice couple (external link) with a sewing machine & some (hopefully 17%) grey cloth vs. some mega-factory somewhere in mainland China*.

*And no, I am not discriminating - believe me when I say that mainland China gets more than their fair share of my $$$...

+1 for me it was the speed an convenience, just take a snap shot of the scene and then load it into the custom WB, a lot easier than putting on another cap or holding something in front of the lens. I don't think there worth as much as they are charging, maybe 30 USD is more reasonable.

If by that you're referring to the "threaded filter" caps, then I entirely agree with you (and I'd just assume hold a coffee filter in front of my lens then screw on an extra WB cap). However, if this "Lally Cap" actually works, the effort will be insignificant and again, it has the benefit of "one size fits all" ;)

Not to mention, Eugene Lally has a pretty impressive CV (external link)...

I have a lally cap and it works just as well as a grey card. I'd much rather have do the white balance at the start rather than in post.

Has anyone used these?:

They are less expensive, curious if they are any good.

I read a short review somewhere that those clips were a major problem...

Who uses one and how do you like it and what brand?

Hi there all,
First post, so HELLO!

I was looking for an expodisc of some sort and then found a great idea on 'tinternet. A cheap UV filter and two coffee filters. :D My "expodisc" cost me less than £5 (for the second hand filter) - the coffee filters were free from work!

Just cut them to size, remove the retaining ring, place the coffee filters on top of the glass and replace the retaining ring. Sorted! A (VERY) cheap white balance disc! Works a treat.

I received a few weeks ago, gave it a shot (for indoor work only) and have to say I'm a bit dissapointed because at least with my 50D, it produces very "cool" images... the whites almost have a blue cast to them...

p.s. The fit is tight... I can't imagine this thing fitting up to "100mm" as advertized...
