I was wondering if I could use them on my XTI
I want to use them manually

My dad gave me a bag full of his vintage camera gear and inside where these two lenses.

Nikkor SC Auto 1:1.4 F=50mm 1524856

Nikkor-H Auto 1:1.8 F=85mm 258719

IMAGE: http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/companies/nikon/nikkoresources/6070nikkor/telephoto/85f18b.JPG

Both lenses are mint, and I was wondering if it was worth it to try them out on my cam. How is the quality of the lenses made? I'm just curious to shoot with them since they are 1.4 & 1.8 The best I have is a 2.8.

Thank you in advance.

Yes you could with an appropriate adapter available on ebay. You would probably want to get one with focus confirmation since the viewfinder on the XTI is tiny.

If the lenses are truly manual lenses (which I question based on the names), they should work well with a decent quality lens mount adapter. They must, however, have manual aperture controls and manual focus.

I would suggest that you look at various camera shops such as Adorama or B&H. There are plenty of cheap (and not necessarily well-made) options via ebay, but I intend to get a better quality adapter such as the Novoflex unit to use my old Nikon lenses (1967 vintage - for my Nikon F cameras) on my 20D.

You can search for something like "Nikon EOS adapter" to find what you're looking for.

I use my Nikkors on the Canon sometimes. These are well made, but expensive. Look on eBay.

The Nikkor-S Auto lenses are indeed fully manual. I have a 50 f/1.4 that I use on my 30D. I believe the "auto" means the diaphragm automatically closes when the shutter is released, as opposed to a manual diaphragm that must be closed by hand before exposure.

Don't know the difference between my Nikkor-S and the Nikkor-SC pictured here, but they both have the "claw" for the light meter. I suspect the SC is basically the same as mine.

I got an adapter, reversing ring and extension tubes from Go Shot: http://goshotcamera.zoovy.com …category/lenses.adapters/ (external link)

A side note: I have several Nikkors use on both my Xt and 40D These adapters are "all over" ebay.

You might want to get and adapter for each lens. This is because Nikkors are a little tricky to mount/ dismount from these adapters (Nikkor lenses turn ccw to mount) and because of the way they must be made, you cannot leave the adapter ON THE CAMERA and dismount the lens.

One of my favorite jabs at my Nikon friends is using old lenses on my new Canon, the reverse of which they cannot do.

Its not too clear but it appears the 50mm is an early AI-S lens and the 85mm is an AI lens.. If that's the case both lenses are automatic meaning the aperture stops down when the shutter is tripped.. I doubt any non-automatic Nikkors exist.. "AI" stands for automatic indexing..

BTW,, you will find the image quality is outstanding with these lenses especially the 85mm.. Older Nikkors are built like tanks and in my opinion works of art..

I think both are Ai-S (I see a hole in the "fork" on the 85mm.)

You could be right Rene.. Its difficult to tell on the 85mm because of the angle..

I've got a newer version of the 85mm F/2.0 AI-S and I reckon it's the sharpest lens I've owned..

I shoot a lot of manual focus lenses on my 5D...Olympus, Zeiss, Leica, Pentax, and Minolta. I've been using adapters from the following: happypagehk, big_is, haoda fu, fotodiox, and cameraquest. I probably have most of mine from happypagehk (he's the only one that will code the adapter to display the lens' focal length and max aperture in the EXIF data). Big_is will code the adapter for focal length only (I have some of these also). I haven't been disappointed with any of the adapters from any of those mentioned (except the cameraquest locking spring needed some modification to lock the adapter to the lens)...they all do what they're supposed to do. One thing about happypagehk...his adapters sell pretty fast (especially the Olympus and Zeiss). When you see his listed, its best to get one right quick if that's what you decide on. Realize though that buying an adapter can be a crapshoot. A lot depends on the thickness of the unit...too thin or too thick can throw focusing off.

Also, you may want to consider changing out your camera's focusing screen to one that will aid manual focusing.

With my adapter, the aperture does not stop down when the shutter is tripped.

A lot depends on the thickness of the unit...too thin or too thick can throw focusing off.

Usually, that means that you can't get focus at infinity.
