Which safe-sync

Looking at the Wein safe syncs, which model do you all recommend for the 10D's?

What do you wish to do with the Safe-Sync? There are different models for different purposes. They have models for hotshoe-mounted flash units, for PC-cord flashe units, and for both.

i called canon and i asked them would it be safe to use my studio strobe on my 10D using the side port, they said its ok to use the pc cord not the hot shoe cause the hot shoe volt's are 6 volt / side port is 250. i hope there rite cause i have been using it with no problem's

Interesting, I wasn't aware that there was a difference in the voltage capabilities between the pc connection and the hot shoe.

I was only planning on hookups to my lights. Normally I just use the pc connection. I have been getting worried about the voltage requirements and was going to invest in one of the Wein safe sync's. I noticed that they had 3 or four different modles and wasn't really sure what the pc to pc was. If the voltage capability of the 10D pc connection is so high, why bother.

A lot of us have run into conflicting information from various Canon techs.

Doug Kerr over at the Rob Galbraith forum published an email he received from Chuck Westfall that confirms information on the Euro-Canon website:

The voltage tolerance on all Canon EOS cameras is the same for both the hotshoe and the PC terminal (if there is a PC terminal). The 10D and the 300D have 6-volt flash syncs, the 20D and the 1D series have 250v flash syncs.

The 10D has never before been reported as having 250v capability, and Canon press releases made a big deal over the 20D having it as a new capability over the 10D.

You really need to know if a digital camera can sync with a wire directly to a strobe. While setting up my system in a friends studio, I blew a $18,000.00 PhaseOne digital back even after the Phaseone website said it was OK to wire sync it to a Norman P2000 studio strobe which cost $4000.00 to repair.
Before that very unhappy day, I tried infrared syncs a few years ago and in a small studio setting they seemed to work ok. The problems I had with any infrared sync or any line of sight sync system is when they were taken out on to location or used outside, I always had problems with them. I now use radio slaves. Pocket wizard or Quantum are the choice of many pros. I chose the Quantum due to the way I needed it to mount on my Hasselblad / bracket setup. Each system has two models that have to due with the amount of channel selections/frequency. On the transmitter at the camera, you can turn on and off different strobes from firing. I have a Radio Slave 4I system that when I use on my 10D and now my 20D. The transmitter is either attached on the hot shoe or through the PC sync with no problems at all. Radio slaves due cost more than infrareds but the work much better in all conditions, through walls, and at great distances.

ok it looks like us 10D owners got screwed on this one .i called canon and spoke to three different people until i got the rite answer. looks like the pc terminal on the 10D is only 6 volts where the 20D is 250volts. so this what we have to work with http://www.bhphotovide​o.com …ails&Q=&sku=273​330&is=REG has any one tryed this one or do you recommend something different
