I know this isn't the best photo- I'm just curious about the post processing on the sky- it was almost totally blown, and I worked pretty extensively on CS3- which is a new program for me.

How does the sky look?

It looks posterized, but do not take that as a reflection on your work.

Before you resize the image for posting, the quality of the image in the sky areas is probably much better than we see here. Any time you resize an image from www x hhh down to 1000 pix x 666 pix, and then do a JPG compression to get it down to 500 kB, it stands to reason that the image is not of the same quality as you see on your computer.
What you could do is pick a small portion of your sky that includes some cloud detail and do a full detail 100% crop and post that. Or, if your host allows it, you can post a full size image there and link to it.

The clouds look blown out. Try this: Select the sky adjust levels. Invert the selection and adjust levels to make a little darker. Then bump up the contrast. That what I did in the attached. It was a quick and dirty job, which didn't get the branches right on the top left and the most distant mountain. But you get the idea.

I also had to cut the jpeg quality to meet the 150kb limit.

Oh bother- I only processed the RAW, and then downsized it to photobucket size, without saving the original. I was only using it to show the view at the end of a trail. I was really interested in the colour of the sky- I should have specified that in my post- sorry

You tossed the original?...severe groaning lasting an entire breath...

Not the original- just the JPEG conversion. I can't remember what I did to it in CS3 though.......
