JUst wondering if anyone has run an A/B between a G9 and a G10 to see which has the better IQ. The guys at Luminous Landscape seemed to really love the G10...

Any opinions from G10 users here? here?

Man...I don't want to upset anyone but the G10 has better IQ...mainly because of the lens.....I sold my G9 the next day after getting the G10....
I really liked the G9...but IQ is what it's about...

I read similar things, and you've used both at the same time, so I'm sure you're right. Do you think it's worth it for most? What would you say is the biggest difference? Is it just sharpness, or does the camera capture tones better? The samples I've seen show better tones than I've been able to get with the G9.

Nevertheless, for me the G9 is more than enough camera... the image quality is fantastic in my eyes.

to answer both questions...

sharpness suffered a bit with the G10 due to higher noise reduction.
as a result the G10 supposedly has slightly better high ISO performance.

I bought my sister a g9 recently... I thought about the g10, but opted for the g9 for fear of the hype over the g10... I didn't buy the hype (pun intended). Hope I was right.

Taking photos with a fancy camera does not make me a photographer.

when you're showing off your pictures online or showing 4x6, 5x7, or 8x10 prints, do you really think you (or others) can see the difference in IQ whether it's from a G9 or G10? All G cameras have good IQ . . . it's a matter of what features are important to you. Get a G9 if you want the reach. Get a G10 if you want to go wider. Get a G6 if you want the swivel screen. Get a G7 if you never shoot raw. I wanted a G9 for the reach. From where we were sitting, the G10 wouldn't have been able to get this close without cropping.

When we're talking about a camera series that's this good, is IQ really that significant? that's just MHO.

Dont know about the G9 but the g10 is that good that it has fooled me when compared to my 40D!. The other day I had to look at exif data to determine what shot what!.Im quite anal about IQ given I also shoot with a large format film camera rated at 150 Megapixel digital equivalent so I was absolutely taken by surprise when it happened. IQ is very important if you are blowing up the pic or do a fair amount of cropping etc.At low iso's this thing is a killer compact..

I was at a PhotoExpo in San Diego yesterday and the whole Canon dog and pony show was there. The Canon G series guru said that the sensor on the G10 was actually larger than the G9... not just a higher MP rating... I think he is incorrect...

But I did shoot his G10 and it looks nice.
