Beatnik... That's a funny work. I actually remember my dad once saying I looked like a beatnik and I cracked up.

Crock pot question.
I can't say I have ever actually used any of the several crock pots I own. Does the dish reduce at all? It seems it will just cook slow and long but have the same liquid which means the flavors won't concentrate and the dish will not be thicker than it was at the start. I have loaded a crock pot with chili makings. I cubed some steak and browned it then lightly cooked the chopped onion in the fat. I will let the onion finish in the pot I just didn't want it to be too strong. I didn't do much research and I have no crock pot instructions. There is an option for a slow 8 hour cook I plan on using that.
Any input from crockpoters appreciated.

Crock pot question.

If you do need to reduce you can put it on a highter temp and leave the lid off for the last hour or two. Otherwise I think you have it, it is a very simple way to cook. We use one often.

I do chili in my crockpot all the time Z....the flavors seem to blend wonderfully. It doesn't reduce much, but it can be thickened if you so desire...a little dab of masa flour will do the trick.

I was thinking that but that requires watching it or at least monitoring it. I was really working toward pushing the button and going to sleep until it is ready:lol:

Who needs reducing anyway, sopping it up with bread/rolls works great too. ;)

There really are Chetniks?

As to crock pots, our does not really reduce at all. It can cook all day long but what you put in is pretty much what comes out. But then out crock is ancient with nothing more than a simple dial for temperature.

It is better when all the flavors concentrate but I am sure I will be able to force it down unconcentrated:lol:

I agree, I have always been a fan of meals with blended, concentrated flavours, like chili, stew, etc.
