QUESTION
I really don't have the time to go out and take a course right now, is there some form of online training, some other training videos (like on YouTube) that anyone would recommend?

There are several REALLY good video tutorials. What do you want to learn? I'll get a list together for you. :D

Dean writes a good book
but I haven't read one of his in a while.

Well, that's the understatement of the year.

gjl711 wrote in post #6717820 (external link)
Which Dean? Dean Koontz? I got a Koontz jones right now. I actually like his writing better than Kings. He develops the characters much better and has the ability to get you to really like the main character in the first few pages. Love the Odd Thomas series. Right now I'm reading "The good guy" it's a pretty good story as well.

Have you read "From the Corner of His Eye" ? It's my favorite Koontz. Though I have several that are right at the top.

sevillafox wrote in post #6717839 (external link)
I'm thinking Koontz. I haven't read the good guy yet but most of his books are excellent. They've changed over the years though and I almost prefer his earlier stuff better. But, I still enjoy his books immensely. Another author I like is John Saul. Some of his stuff is great. Manhattan Hunt Club was excellent.

Geez, it's true then. Birds of a feather DO flock together. LOL.
My bookshelf is mostly Koontz, then King, then Saul. John Saul "Comes the Blind Fury" was the very first horror type novel I'd ever read. I think I was in the 4th or 5th grade. I was HOOKED from then on out.

The stand was the first King book I read. I was 12.

The movie was pretty good. The effects were cheesey but it was still a good one.

I've currently got Duma Key but I'm working (very slowly) on Dean Koontz "The darkest evening of the year" first. One of my students is busy reading Duma Key while I've got the book here. We have 15 minutes of reading every wednesday.

Duma Key was good, though I do miss his earlier style. His writing has definitely changed since he was run over.

Update on my locked camera thing:
I want back out to do a bit more shooting and could not get it to happen again. I'm hoping that this was a aberration and it doesn't happen again. It is scary to press that shutter button and nothing, no click, no picture.

*whew*

eddarr wrote in post #6717807 (external link)
The Stand is a very good book. Not the abridged version though, it cuts out to much stuff. The movie was OK. It was kinda interesting to put faces to the characters.

Dean writes a good book but I haven't read one of his in a while.

Morning all.

I took a break from Dean for several years and only started reading him again about a year or so ago. Good stuff, but I like the bite that King delivers :)

sevillafox wrote in post #6717824 (external link)
Morning Eric.

Did you King readers ever notice all the connections in his books? For example there's a part in both Gerald's Game and Dolored Claiborne where the main characters see each other. There's other ones too.

I look for connections :) They are in all of his books if you know what to look for.

That would be my golf game too:lol:
By the way, my wife is a big fan of Jarome Iginla, so we watch Flame games when we get a chance. She always wants to see a Canadian team win the Cup. I like to follow the teams featuring ex Portland Winter Hawk players, and I want to see a Canadian team not win the Cup, so when playoff time rolls around, we sit on opposite sides of the living room watching the games.:D

:lol::lol:

sevillafox wrote in post #6717894 (external link)
They were too busy putting metaphors and symbolism into their work. Horror writers just put it all out there. :D

There are lots of metaphors and symbolism and character development in Kings work. I get a tad irritated when Lit snobs look down their noses at writers who aren't starving

How about this.

Don't you hate it when your out in space and forget to tie down your tools. You turn around for just a second to change the radio station and when you look back your tools are gone. All you can do is sit there and watch them float away and you think if I was just a few pounds heaver I would have enough gravitational pull keep them close by.

ROFLOL!!!

Dang! happens to me all the time. I once lost a rather expensive "cooling tile adjuster" that way. And wouldn't you know it? No Home Depo or Lowes for miles.

Whoa... I just had something weird happen. I'm selling my truck today and I go out there to take a few last pics. First few work fine then all of a sudden I press the shutter and nothing. Push the pop up flash down it takes a pic. Pop it up a few more then nothing again. Change the zoom and it takes a few more then locks up again. Turn it off, takes a few and locks up.

Yikes!! time for some debugging I think. Never had that happen before. :(

LIke Dan, I was wondering about the battery level. That could be it.

I'd LOVE to shop alone. Usually I'm wearing the baby in his carrier and Aidan is in the cart. But, it gets me out of the house so I guess it can't be all bad. :D

Doesn't he take them for a few hours on the weekend (outside of harvest time) so you can get away? What is his email address, I will send him a note. ;)

I thinking your wife is a real wonderful person, and hockey fan then. ;)
My cousin played for Portland a good 10 years ago or more for 2 years.

eddarr wrote in post #6717850 (external link)
I don't want to talk about hockey this morning.

Na na na na na :p
Did you watch it? Other then the first few minutes it was all Flames, if not for Budaj and some good block shots, the score would have been even more one-sided.

You're right on the birds then. I'm a junkie for all of those guys. I'm SO happy when a new paperback comes out!
