:oops: That has reminded me of a terrible joke about a short sighted dog getting intimate in the garden with a lettuce...... it mistook it for a cauli :o

It took me about 2.3 seconds to get that...

So as an update, the little 8 year old we know with cancer is doing as well as can be expected. He is undergoing a very rigorous chemo course and has 5 more months to go, but he's had 3 sets of treatments now and although he's lost his hair he is in generally good spirits and tolerating the treatments ok. They give him IV anti nausea meds for the 3 days he gets his chemo and that really helps. He has had to have 2 blood transfusions already since the treatments wipe out his immunity and he has to have blood counts over a certain level to have his next set of treatments. So remember that donating blood is a good thing.

Sounds like a great little trooper, my best wishes for him and his family Crissa.
Stories like this sure do bring back memories for me.
And yes, donating blood is something everyone who can, should do. My kids both go regularly. Lisa is not allowed to because of me having HepC and the fact that she is my wife, though testing showed she is not infected.

LISA, as far as you guys getting a dog goes, MY advice is to take it slow, and keep going over the points you and Dan have been discussing. This is not a decision that you should just make in a couple days. Your feelings will strengthen in one way or the other. I do feel confident that you two will do great if you do decide to get a dog.

I am hoping I can just re-import the originals but this is the second time I've had to reboot to keep my EHD online, it is a maxtor and always on, perhaps I should invest in one with a power button.

Like Lonnie, my PC and hard drives stay on 24/7 with no issues due to leaving them on.

One thing to be aware of in having a dog is that it makes traveling and being away from home overnight much more difficult.

True, for some even visiting friends and family it can be a problem. Not all folks are dog lovers, and some are allergic.

Any "pet friendly" hotels with a weight limit.

I was surprised to see that in some hotels too. The Chateau Lake Louise only allows mid-sized or smaller dogs, though they really never defined what mid-sized is. I do think this is wrong, many larger breeds, like St. Bernards are actually better then most smaller dogs because they are naturally less energetic.

If you like big hairy dogs like the Newfoundland but would rather not have the drool you should check out Leonbergers. They are very sweet and full of personality. I have 2 females and they are great.

Hi Denise, beautiful dogs you have there. :D

Lisa, seriously, most of the reasons people want kids aren't good enough.

Very true.

I was looking at dogs all day and I was thinking that it never occurred to me that I'd need to make sure a dog was a weight that I could control. I mean, a mastiff weighs more than me. I can't imagine trying to walk it.

The size of the dog does not matter at all if you train it well.

Hi Lonnyard. I had a couple of friends over. We were playing Risk all evening.

We play Risk a few times a year with a couple sets of friends, great game.

G'MAE.

I too leave my machine on all the time, only recently had an issue with the maxtor not being recognized. It was plugged into a USB hub so I moved it directly to the machine.tho I am thinking in my case had I been turning the machine on and off regularly perhaps this would not have happened?

Could it just be a bad USB port? I had one go bad recently on my older desktop. That's why I just recently added a USB hub to my computer. I needed every port the thing had available. Now I have a little breathing room.

G'mae all.

Sorry, no catch-up - been a little busy here.

I'd value thoughts and prayers for my Mum at the moment (a couple of you may have seen this already elsewhere). Saturday afternoon, she fell down the stairs at home. Fortunately, my sister and BIL are living there at the moment having just returned from the States to help look after her. My sister heard the crash as she fell and was there within moments. Mum was unconscious for about 5 mins and it looked like she had struck her head on the wall at the bottom of the stairs. Ambulance to casualty, x-rays etc. She has got two broken wrists, a broken shoulder and two broken toes. That night, she was -extremely- confused, using the wrong words in sentences, sentences making no sense etc. I finally got home at 2am Sunday morning after she had been moved to a ward. Went in to see her yesterday and she -seemed- a little better - very drowsy but beginning to understand where she was. However, I rang the hospital this morning to see how she was to learn that she had fallen out of the bed during the night and was going to require further x-rays!!! I'm going to see her later today but life is a bit up in the air at the moment.

So, also, NOT SQUISHED, as I'll be running around to help sort out Mum.

Mark, as I am sure you know all thoughts and prayers with you in this. Are they looking at why she fell down the stairs in the first place, could she have had a slight stroke?

Only in an English hospital could a vulnerable patient be allowed to fall out of bed.

Stay well
