Canon has it wrong that software for the 50d is compatible with Apple powermacs running OSX 10.3.4 -10.3.9. Their technical specs. on the net and with the camera is incorrect. Apple owners running OSX beware. You'll end up with a camera only capable of jpeg downloads and not RAW images, and a vendor reluctant to take it back. Anyone else got my problem?

Buy a dirt cheap CF reader. I never even bother installing camera drivers.

Another 'get a card reader' answer from me as well - It really is the best way to go IMO.
I personally would not necessarily get a cheap one, some of the cheap ones may only be USB 1.1 and not USB2 (or even firewire).

WELCOME to POTN!! :-)

a good fix guy's but it's not the point.

Canon should pay for the card reader or the vendor should take care of it.

if Starlingmoss is in the UK, inform Canon that you will be contacting trading standards
and providing them with copies of the erroneous software capability statements.
they will have to refund the 50D as it is not fit for the purpose. providing you with a card reader is the easy way out.

drawers full of slightly mouldy Leica kit, a couple of newish Japanese bits, nearly every cheap Chinese flash modifying toy ever sold on ebay and sooooo many batteries the TSA have me on a no fly list ;)

If you are on a Mac then get the SanDisk firewire reader. Totally awesome and EXTREMELY fast. Maybe that's why they call it the Extreme FIrewire reader. And with the ebay 25% cashback deal you can get one for around $34 bucks. I just got one and I love it.

Hi & welcome to POTN

First let me join the crew of card reader users but I am not a Mac user, PC here :)

Now though I would love to have a Mac on my desk as well I have enough issues over time with Windows. So why do I say that, well I try to keep up with other happenings and I have often read of lack of compatiblity once Mac release the next iteration of their OS i.e. what worked before fails on that 'simple' upgrade. At least with most Win upgrades there is backwards compliance.

However what you describe in respect of only being able to dl JPEGs from the camera sounds like those folk with WinXP who have reported the same sort of problem - search it hereabouts??? In other words the camera is fine its just that WinXP does not recognise Canon RAW files.

On the matter of whether the software specs break any laws of description I am sure I recall reading that all software is sold "as is" with no promises made as to its compatiblity & functioning on your system. A bit like air tickets - in one of the conventions covering such travel the airline is under no obligation to even take you where you wish to go...........!

I hope you sort it to your satisfaction, all the best.

:)

That was a great meal ~ you must have a good set of pans :p

If thats true that software does not have to live up to advertised specs then that needs to be challenged in court. They advertise it wil do A, B and c, so it d..... well should do it.
