I've started using it more and more. It's quite useful in some situations.

I use it a lot for macro shots.

It's also sometimes (for a few specific circumstances) hard to judge focus on my 40D, so for when the times when I'm unsure, I use live view, zoomed in, manual focus. It's a life saver.

When I use live view I normal turn autofocus off, I've notice I can get a better photo that way "although I found this out a few days about lol"

I try to use it whenever I'm shooting landscapes or macros with a tripod.

I love Live View and use it quite a lot.

It's great for tripod work, particularly at night, or as a back up technique if my eyes get tired from too much viewfinder use (from which I occasionally suffer). I don't do macro, but it would be great for that, too. You just have to keep in mind that it may present a compromise in terms of metering modes and AF, but normal shooting is only a button-press away.

Oh, and it doubles as an effective one-button MLU, which everyone moans about not having!

DerekRob,
I use it from time to time and its great.
The negative is it restricts you to evaluative metering

However this question has been answered many many times already on this forum
40D and Live view - Why use it?
50D Live View Rocks!
Appreciating the 40D's live view function more and more

Sure, except that you lose the stability of having the camera pressed against your nose, but you do gain a cleaner LCD. Also, I think you would look kind of dorky holding it up like a P&S.

Another advantage of LV that few people seem to have noticed is that you have a predictive histogram which can be very useful in situations where chimp-and-reshoot is problematic.

You are spot on with that Elie...unless you're in a spot metering situition when you want a certain part of your image "properly exposed".

Yuppers I've been using my histragram since I found out I can use it while in lv mode and it's very cool.

Also when you have a flash on you press half way down you will see a big difference and it's VERY VERY COOL.

I'm loving my SXI.

Since upgrading from my 350D to a 40D I've been enjoying Live Mode for my landscapes. It's a nice way to make sure my horizons are level and to position my grad filters without squinting through the viewfinder, which can be awkward when the tripod is positioned low down.

I also used it for a few macros when I had to manually focus. Zooming in with Live Mode really made that easier.
