Nice job harleyplugs. I like all the choices that you've made...even the black background is interesting. I prefer the first version with the more limited focus if it matters...

(one tip if it's of interest, try adding some small bubbles to the coffee edge as it can make a cup of coffee look 'freshly brewed/hot'. A drop of dish detergent and water mix will work reasonably well. Spoon or eye dropper a few along the edge of the drink).

I've been asked more than a few times about lighting food and my short response has typically been "Back light with a fill card"

My answer for most photography questions: "it depends...'

Great idea.

It is funny. I don't drink coffee. So while I was setting up I was like...man I hate to brew a cup just to waste it. I mean coffee is $$$....:) So my wife and I went to the store for normal shopping and Publix had sweet tea on their 1 cent special so I got some.

So that is cold sweet tea in the cup!

I love your idea though. That is one of the things that is drawing me to food photography. You really had to pay attention to detail to make it look really good.

As far as back light and fill...I have been doing a lot of research and that seems to be the norm and best way to do it.

Thanks for the comments and tip!

Now....on to a pizza slice cheese pull. Out comes the heat gun...;)

I love the standing panels you're using as reflectors. I may have to steal that idea.

I would love to take credit.

Zack Arias did this many years ago. Simple bi-fold doors that you get at the home improvement store. Paint one side white and the other black if you want. $20 or so bucks later you have white reflective panels, glare blockers (lights pointing back at the lens), and light reducers panels if you go with the black paint. Pretty cool really.

Agree...I love seeing how things are done. And thanks for the kind words, but all I did was push the shutter button. A lot of other people made these happen.

What do I know about cheese?

Apparently you know how to make it look good, which is no small feat!
