Hello lighting experts...
I have been doing freelance PJ work for the local paper for a few years, mostly sports. Lately I have been shooting more feature/spot news stuff and I have been wanting a flash. Mostly group/wide angle shots.

So, the question is, for once in a while use, would the 430EX or 580EX II be better? I'm not sure if I really need the power offered by the 580, but I have never really done much flash work anyway.

Thanks - Zander

IMHO, Depends on the PJ work. If you just have a bracket or on camera than no. If you're ever in a "setup", than a 580EX II would help as it can be a "master" and set off a 430EX (slave) in a dual lighting mode.

As an upgrade the 580 doesn't have much over the 430, there is some stuff. So If you have a single flash, either will do for what you're doing.
