Went to Service Photo in Baltimore today and tried the new 5D Mark II. As a Nikon user debating the switch, I couldn't jump right in and use it perfectly but I liked it! The video mode was pretty nice, but I can't say it was anything really impressive. The frame was impressive and as someone who shot semi-pro sports earlier in the day, I definately could have used it earlier  .

The card door was taped off and they wouldn't let me throw a card in. I did however get pictures of the camera just for the fun of it. These were shot with a 1D Mark III, which to be honest, I had more fun with!

And one of me just for fun.

Thanks for looking!

The only noteworthy issue on these shots is, that someone bothers to put copyright marks on them. Are these your best shots?

Btw, the 5D and 5D2 are not for sport shooting.

Seriously no sport shooting? Is that because of the low frames per second? I'm a noob, but high megapixel and the latest and greatest processor I just figured this would do anything that a lens you slap on can do. It seems to be a great price and the next step up from the new 50D that doesn't seem to be getting consistent reviews.

Sorry, I thought maybe you guys would like to see the camera. I guess I was mistaken. The copyrights are there. I'm over it.

Best shots? Give someone who's used to a Nikon D80 a Mark III on manual mode and let him figure it out and try and not look conspicuous taking pictures of a pre-production camera.

I know but I was saying it still would have been better than what I had earlier. Plus it is a slight increase over the older 5D.

If you point the camera at an athelete and press the shutter it blows up. You could lose a hand or an eye.

Stick strictly to landscapes and portraits with the 5D or you might get maimed!

Sure, crazy companies like Nikon might make cameras that are good at doing about anything that a photographer might want to do. But Canon knows that people who shoot landscapes and portraits never shoot sports. The 5D sport detect auto destruct system is simply a way of killing off Nikon shooters that have stolen 5D cameras from their rightful landscape/portrait shooting Canon owners.

Yeah dude, the copyright stuff is lame and we didn't want to see the new camera.

Don't let the Grinch get you down. I think many of us are looking for any bit of news on this camera...and that's obvious by those immediately viewing this and also taking the time to reply (even if they're killing the messenger).

1. Low frame rate:
5D2: 3.9 fps max 78 JPEG, 13 RAW 3.9 fps max 78 JPEG, 13 RAW
1DMkIII: 10 fps max 110 JPEG or 30 RAW

2. Better focus tracking.

3. The 1 serie models can utilize the high-accuracy focusing on f/4 lenses, the 5D and lower require f/2.8 or better.

It's unfair to compare the 5d II to the 1DS just because of price alone - but besides the $7,000 price range, what else is there for shooting sports and an all-around camera? The 5D Mark II?

40D, 50D

Btw, I mentioned the 1DMkIII, price $4500, not the 1DsMkIII (the 1DsMkIII offers max 5fps for a much higher price).

The high-accuracy focusing (only on special focus points) are working like you would focus with a prism-screen: the difference between the two halves is measured. This requires a large distance between the opposite edges of the aperture; therefor it works only if the lens is at least f/2.8, but the 1 serie has a more sophisticated system, which works with f/4 as well.

the accuracy of the 5D/5Dii (assuming it's the same AF) is just fine peeper, it's the speed of the AF, especially in lower light where it's an issue. But it's center point is still very very good/fast.

No, the 5Dii isn't aimed at sports shooters, but it can certainly do it. It's a great camera and don't let the L/1series whores tell you differently.
