I just thought i would post a thread about the lightbox i just built. i've read the other lightbox threads and found them quite interesting. I figured this would give me something to do when the weather sucks. i bought all the materials at home depot and michael's (craft store) for about $60 total.

i bought a roll of white paper at the craft store. i don't like it cuz you can see visible lines in the paper. i can adjust the exposure up in PP to get rid of them but it over exposes everything else and it makes it hard to play with in PP. i'd like to get a black background eventually too, and i wanted to ask...do the paper rolls that B&H sell (particularly the white) have lines like this? (you'll see in the attached pics)

i just wanted to show this one more photo. i bumped up the exposure to try and get rid of the paper lines, but you can see it blows out the white text on the lens even more.

maybe try 2-3 layers of paper? Otherwise I would guess ya need to use a higher weight paper.

Velvet has no lines, works as a great background, plus comes in white, black and other colors... works for me

Also so you dont have to bump up the exposure, to make it look really good use your dodge tool!

another option that dawned on me is to elevate your subject so it's not resting flat on the paper. Combined with moving the piece further from the backgound effectively creates the distance needed to take the background beyond the DOF and should even it out...I think? Maybe?
