Well as already mentioned, the aspect ratio of the crop was wrong...makes the shots look distorted. Secondly the color of the second image is way off compared with the first shot. I can't tell if it's maybe from stage lights or if it's just way over-saturated, but the colors in the guitar are so hot there's almost no detail. In fact, it doesn't even look like the same guitar...and I'm saying this as not only a photographer but as a musician/guitar player myself who also does guitar refinishing. In the first shot the guitar looks like it has a "Honey Burst" finish and in the second shot it looks like a "Heritage Cherry Burst". Now I would almost be willing to accept that maybe the guitar player just switched guitars at some point (I do that a lot myself) but if you look at the head stock of the guitar in the second shot...it's blue. Should be black as in the first shot. To me this indicates a color problem with the image and not a different instrument
. Beyond that, the expression on the guitar player's face in that second shot just really doesn't capture any emotion or anything...looks like he's just standing there playing.
The first shot, with the correct aspect ratio might make a half-way decent print but at the risk of sounding rude, even if the issues with the second shot were from processing, I don't think I'd really bother with it.
Just my $.02 worth,
Jim
