Yeah, I really just don't like the look of the square frame.

I'll update the post when I get around to processing the photo.

I agree with your assessment, Juicebox (nice name, by the way). When you crop the image, it offsets the vanishing point. Generally speaking, the vanishing point should be placed in the center or at a thirds. Cropping out the post throws off the balance in the composition.

Alternatively, you can reframe the composition itself... maybe like this. You then, however, have lose a little bit of the sky. This is not a "sqare" crop. the relative dimensions are still the same as the original (2:3)

You put into words what I couldn't say; that's exactly what I wanted to say, I just couldn't find the terminology for it.

I think I'm going to leave the crop as it is, and go from there; the dimensions are correct on that crop, but I think the sky and clouds are quite interesting, which I'd like to keep in there.

This is off of my girlfriend's dock, so after I edit this photo I'll have many opportunities to reshoot this :D.

Ok, two new rough edits. I know the clouds and sky in the second one are not evened out, I'm just trying to get opinions on these two. Right now I'm feeling the second one (will be much nicer after I've evened out the clouds/sky), but I'm not sure if I burned the clouds too much. Also, I think the water could stand to be a bit darker. Opinions?
Edit- I don't know where those gay watermarks came from. I saved them as photoshop files then converted them by rightclicking, so I guess that's it. It won't be there in the final version.
