So I just got the most flattering email. And luckily I have you all to help me figure out what my response should be. Here it is...

Hi Michelle,

I am Ruby AC, our designer found your photo book very
impressive and it is a model for GOOD photo book.

Our designer would love to use your book as promotion advertisement image.

So here we have to ask you first, if you are willing to give us right to post it. Hope to hear good news from you.

Thank you! :]

It is a printing company from China. I'm sure it is more about the design and not the photos. They probably don't even know that I'm a photographer. It was a scrapbook with my kids. But it does have my photos, and it is my design. And if I do say so myself, it is pretty cute. It reads like a childrens story book. I'm sure they just expect me to say yes, and be flattered. But I know enough to expect something in return. But WHAT? That is where you come in! Have any of you entertained such offers? I would like for them to use the book, but I won't just give them the rights to use it for whatever they want. HELP!!!!!

PS. Here is a sample of the book

did they use your image to do those edits without permission as that is a breech of copyright alone. Get a contract written up, with a figure you want to charge.

Find out how many copies they plan to sell, what the cost of each book is, how many images of yours, and ask for a proof copy if you agree to this. Make sure your copyright and website is marked on it

They aren't selling my book. And I don't think they are going to change it. They just want to use it on their website, as an example of a photobook.

for use on their website only, and not to be made in to a book; id see that as advertising and charge to how many hits/sales they get.

I have a feeling, they expect to get it free - for you to say "yes oh i would be honoured".

#1 rule, make sure there is a written contract between you and them to agree to the fact that the images are ONLY allowed to be used for their website for x period of time, at x price

How about something like this as a response.....

I would be happy to sell you shared rights to my book. What are your normal payment rates for freelance design?
