What do you mean by manual exposure?

I set the camera to "M" rather than Av or Tv or P.
I selected what I thought would be the best shutter speed and I selected what would be the best aperature based on the camera's metering indications as a start.

Tell me what is your definition of "Manual"?

BTW, The Sunpak 522 was set to automatic to cover an area of 30 feet. It has its own built-in sensor and controls the light coverage from its individual location.

"Manual Exposure" means two things -

1) He came to a logical and rational conclusion about what shutter speed, aperture and ISO would be appropriate or correct

2) He then made those settings with his camera switched to "Manual" mode.

How does one decide upon exactly what the settings should be ? That is a task that has literally dozens of different approaches - one of which is to use either an internal or external lightmeter. But even then, there will be as many as 2 of the 3 parameters that can be chosen more or less at random. It is the combined effect of all 3 settings that actually determines the "exposure".

Not to steal your thread or anything, but here's a similar shot that I got out there at Lakewood Park last summer....

Peace,
Jim

Jim, I've shot from that exact same location many many times. Its one of the places I try to hit each time I acquire a new piece of equipment to my arsonal.
Did you also know that the local name for that park is "Romance Bluff"?

Bob, I wasn't clear that The Edgewater shot was only one of many attempts to get a capture I could work with in PP
