This is mainly for watching TV with the odd slide show to borr people of cause ;)
But what is best these days Plasma or LCD im thinking 37 to 40 inches regarding size for the set no bigger as it would over power the room its for.
i do prefer Panosonic or Toshiba .
Rob.

I had a Samsung 63" Plasma before she took it and it was awesome. My next one will be an other Samsung Plasma but probably smaller.

A very good friend is a TV repairman and he tells me his business thrives on plasma.

I own both lcd and plasma. While LCD is catching up in the black department and the motion lag, it's just not there yet. But, it depends what you watch. If you don't watch a lot of fast moving action, such as tennis, or other sports, a newer lcd will do just fine. For my main set, I have a 58 inch Panasonic plasma. Pioneer being the best plasmas available, Panasonic is a close second. I have a Sony and Sharp Aquos LCD and they are fine sets. If you play video games, lcd is better as it does not suffer the burn-in effect that can plague plasma from the static lines on games. If your room is bright, with a lot of windows and reflections, most lcd's have matte screens and will be better.

Bottom line, with prices as low as they've ever been, you'll be happy with either. I am an audio-videophile and prefer plasma though.

That said, go for the biggest screen you can manage. Do not think it will overwhelm the room. That's a fallacy. My living room is not that large, measuring 14 feet wide by 24 feet long, and a 50 inch was too small. Thus, I sold it to my sister and got the 58. I would much prefer a 65 at this point.

I had it mounted on the wall, on an expensive mount that telescoped out like two pair of scissors. Also mounted the 58 that way, but when I heard some wall creaking, I took it down rather than one day perhaps watch it fall down.

And as to my good friend Doc Klepper's comment, of the six or seven flat screens I've owned, the only one that crapped out was a six month old Sharp Aquos. Costco took it back, no questions asked (before they changed their return policy to 90 days, but it was still under factory warranty).

Also, my Panasonic 58 inch started buzzing. Panasonic dispatched two repairmen who removed a boatload of screws to detach the rear cover and it was simply a component board which needed tightening.

Hey, Doc, how you been?

Thanks for info guys
So it apears theres not a lot in it lcd V plasma as im not into sport much a New LCD should be fine .
MDJAK IN THE UK our rooms tend to be quite small 14ft by 12ft being the avrage size of a room so going to big would really not be a good ider although i take your point on checking what size might be right .
I will look into that befor buying My local dealer will infact bring 2 tv sets to try so i will look at that route too.
iv just checked were the TV will go and the avrage distance sat from it is 10ft tops .

I can believe that as Plasmas that are a couple years old weren't exactly the quality they are now. I have a panasonic 42" plasma and I'd never consider anything else, other than a bigger panasonic :)

I have a LCD TV and its great. The only issue I had with Plasma was the burn-in affect when playing video games and if you ever moved the Plasma, you'd have to be extra careful cause if you lay it down for too long, it will ruin the screen. Oh and I needed something that wouldn't reflect so much light off of it.

I've seen Plasmas in other households and they are nice! If I never need a 2nd TV, it'll be a plasma.

Try doing a little photo editing on that screen.

You'll never go back to a little computer monitor for non critical images.

Enjoy!

I guess it's a bit late to add my suggestions.

We have both and the Plasma screens use up a lot more energy but pictures is outstanding from even the widest angles. The wife wants a video game and I told her our plasma screen results in burt images and if she wanted to play it would be best to only do so on the LCD screen

Both have made some remarkable improvements and plasma screens a few years back had much lower life expectancy, which is why the repairman likes them.

Ours is rated at like 50,000 hours I believe. Thats a lot of years.
