After reading through this whole thread (yes I did! :D), seeing all the great pictures and positive comments by you guys, I took the plunge and ordered one. With bing 10% cashback on ebay, it's $530 shipped.

I'll let you guys know how it performs on my T1i and definitely will post pics!

Special thanks to Gabe whose advice and pics definitely enriched everyone's experience in this thread :)

monk3y, had I not sold my kit lens, my gear list would be identical to you! :D

How do you like the grip for the T1i BTW?

some nice shots in here :)
i'm considering this or the canon/sigma 18-200mm purely for general walkabout & motorsport where i would be constantly going from wide angle [paddock/pit lane] to zoom [track action]. this tamron does seem to get consistently good comments on it's IQ though.

haha..i still have my kit lens, i can't really sell it for its price its already a bargain, might as well keep it as backup.

the grip feels really nice..i like it, the camera feels a lot beefier and i don't hate shooting in portrait anymore... its balances the weight of the tamron 18-270 with the T1i. btw, i have the phottix brand grip.

If your goal is to shoot some motorsports with the Tamron, you might be better off with the Canon 18-200 IS. That has faster AF, better for tracking. However, if you're relatively far from the track and there isn't very high speed involved, you're fine with the Tamron I guess. I've shot a horse show last year and it worked fine (but horses don't run at 180 mph :) )

This looks like a great lens. I am probably going to get this lens to go with the 50D that I'll be getting soon replacing my Rebel XS. My friend told me not to get Tamron because their lenses get dust inside quite easily. Anyone have this problem?

That may be plausible.
I've owned my 18-270 for almost a year and a half and there is some dust inside. Does it affect IQ? No. Moderate dust on or near the front element will not percievably affect IQ. I've taken probably close to 15000 photos with that lens in all kinds of environment. Dust will occur with a lot of zoom lenses.

check this out, very interesting:

Wow I read that article, very very eyeopening! I would have never knew a busted front element can still take ANY kind of picture, let alone a decent one. :)

Yeah, amazing, I know. Since I read it I haven't been concerned about minor dust specks.. :)
