Almost looks like a far-focus problem. The mountain ranges on the southern rim look to be in the best focus. Were you using autofocus? I would think that at f/16 it would have to be a manual focus but I do not know the 400 at all. Either that or camera mount/ rotation/orbit blur.

Hard to say bowtie cause i'm not familiar with the 400 at all :( . However on the 300D when i have it attached primefocus of a scope the f/stop becomes whatever the scope is . Like the AT1010 refractor i used is a f/6 and when you remove the camera lens and attach it PF a scope then the camera has to follow what ever it's attached to . Now when i attach a lens and shoot then i'll use A/F and when it's set i'll pull the switch back to manual so the focus freezes unless you bump it or manually adjust it . I've never got the most crisp focus from a lens . Only a refractor . If your using a Prime lens of one size then it will work the same way . Primes always give the best focus and crisp detail . On your image here did you try doing Custom Sharpening and use 1 and -1 setting to both sides of adjustments ? Sometimes thats what i do to bring out a little more crispness if it doesn't pixelate the image up .

With the Walimex lens i used, i have to set the camera up with a different lens. I cant change the aperture with the Walimex on, only the ISO and shutter speed. The display shows f00 but it uses what was last set. I normally use f8.

I always use M mode.

Auto focus is not with this lens either all pictures are manual focus.

As you say it is probably a focus issue, it was taken resting on my balcony, no tripod or mirror lock. Compare it to this one, taken a day later with near enough the same settings but with mirror lock and on a tripod (Well actually a tripod and another frame as my tripod wont hold the lens on its own :-) ), you can see a big difference.

bbulldog , i did some checking in PS7 with the moon from your link which i had seen earlier and is a great moon . When you have time try this technique and see what you think . Take that one into PS , choose "filters" +"other"+"custom" , make sure both adjustments are 1 on the left side and -1 on the right side and click "ok" . Next go to "filters"+"noise"+"despeckle" . Then go up and choose "image"+"adjustments"+"auto color" and click "Ok" . See if this gives you a 3-D look you might like . It should brighten the moon a little giving it that more natural Full Moon brightness look . If you like it then make a duplicate and save it but do not save the original . Then open them both and see what the difference is between your original and the newly edited one . I did the same to the one you posted here first and it also makes a differnce in the look and feel of it but the one on the link you provided looks even better IMHO .
