I totally feel really lucky right now. I am a complete newbie to photography, and I have some really nice stuff, I feel really grateful.

Anyhow.

I thought I would share some of my first photos. Is it normal, while learning the relationship of the elements of light, to take like 50 photos of the same thing, just messing with settings to see what the result is? You know, visual aid learning? Anyhow. That's what I did. Here are a few, in progression (skipping over a few) and I can tell this is the beginning of a wonderful relationship with the 24-105 :)

And my favorite (I caught some of the sky ;) I just hate that its missing orientation to the ground)

Sorry there's so many of pretty much the same thing. You know how it is, being new and all. Anyhow. These were all taken from my front porch and it was COLD and my tripod ain't here yet, so, you know.

Anyhow, thanks for looking. The weekend cannot get here fast enough! I want to play!

Congrats on your first L! I remember my first. And my second. And my third. Yea, I had the dreaded L fever for a while ;). They're gone now, but their memory lives on. Enjoy it!

I know it. I am already looking at the 70-200 F4 IS and I just know I am going to find a reason to think I don't REALLY need 300mm reach and sell my 70-300 and do it again, another L. I can totally feel it coming

Evidently the whole "desperate for money so I have to sell things" problem disappeared?

Congratulations on you purchase! The good thing about Ls is that although they ruin you financially they hold their value for the future.

All you have to do now is to try to match you Ls level of quality by putting your photographic skills to work. This is the real and most beautiful challenge of photography.

Ls do lead to more Ls, but do try and keep a level head. I have owned 4 Ls...I still own two. I sold my 80-200 f/2.8L for the 70-200 f/4L IS (both are spectacular, but the lighter weight and IS are more important to me than f/2.8 ). I also sold my 135L because I didn't use it much. Now my 85L...that won't ever be leaving me, I don't believe. Truly, truly stunning. Be wary of the L-primes, though, as they are a whole new ballgame.
