Came across this neat little web page. it allows you to mouse through a shutter release from beginning to end. The camera they are using is a Nikon D3, but the shutter works the same way for a Canon as well. It's interesting to see the blades uncover the sensor and then cover it back up. Check it out:

That's very interesting.

What is the second smaller mirror used for (the one behind the viewfinder mirror)? Is it for the auto-focus sensor?

I believe that is the autofocus mirror. I know that Canon cameras have their AF mirror underneath so I'm guessing tha Nikon does as well.

That is sooooo cool. I thought they used high speed camera as well, but they used another SLR! Must have taken forever to get the revolution correct!
