What batteries does everyone use in their external flash units? Are there any high powered rechargeables that last longer and recycle faster?

Take a look atthis similar thread and read Tim's post all the way at the bottom for another opinion. I like the Eneloops myself because they are always charged and ready to go unlike the Powerex batteries he mentions. I get pretty good recycle times with the Eneloops in my 580 EXII. Jeremy

I made a switch to eneloops and I've done hundreds of shots and it takes 1-2 seconds depending on the power.

Right now I have some Duracells that are 2650mAh and the difference over using normal alkaline batteries is incredible. The recycle time when firing my 580ex at full power (as a test) is literally cut down by about half when using the rechargeables. They're amazing. 5D Mark II, Leica M8

My eneloops outlast my other rechargeable batteries with higher ratings. The eneloops are only rated at 2000 mAh.

Is this true for all Eneloops, or is there a certain version of them that tend to perform this way? 5D Mark II, Leica M8
