I was at the Apple Store looking at a 15" Macbook Pro.
Did I read it correctly, only glossy screens.
I have a matte Dell here at home.
I need the Mac for work as my office has been on Mac since 1990.
Is the gloosy any good or is it a distraction with reflections?

Thanks.

i have the new macbook. I wasn't sure about the glossy screen either, but so far it's been fine. The LED display is a LOT brighter than my old ibook, and as long as it is on, i can barely see any reflections. Even in a completely dark room, w/ a tv behind me, i barely notice it.

I don't use it much outdoors though, and in really bright settings, so I can't really comment on that.

just looking at them in the apple store, they're very hard to see/read IMHO when you're backlit... And the store here has those giant backlit displays behind you at every laptop station... So yeah, they suck in that instance and that's how they show them off.

I think in a normal setting they'd be fine though. Also, the mac gurus said that 3rd party accessories are out for the older macbooks that are basically a mat screen protector. Meaning it's a static cling deal to "protect" your screen that also makes it mat. Sounds like the answer to me, but who knows when/where to get them.

I've heard of many instances where the cinema displays are so bright and vibrant that they are impossible to calibrate correctly. Is this true with the new screens? It seems they are moving away from the working photographer niche and more towards the rich and expansive customer base of people who like pretty looking movies, not correct.

I have a 24" iMac with the glossy screen. No problems. But then I don't have a light behind me when I work.

I have heard the same thing, and due to the brightness and vibrance of the screen I have also heard that under toning or over toning has become an issue, more so on under toning.

The glossy screen on the new Macbook Pros is for the most part pretty good - it can be a bit annoying with reflections on sunny days outside, but in just about every place I've used it inside it's been pretty good. Overall, I've been pleased with it...

Check the online Apple Store for refurb Mac Book pros if you are set on a matte screen.

I calibrated a friends Macbook 13" recently, and it calibrated fine to about 125 Cd/m^2.
