Hi.
I have two computers, one stationary with windows vista on it and one Macbook PRO laptop.

Currently I use the Macbook PRO to store and edit my photos by using the wonderful program Aperture.

On the windows PC, Aperture is not supported. So I was thinking of switching to using Lightroom on both computers, but before I do that I was wondering if the photolibraries created with Lightroom on the Mac is compitable with the windows libraries. (and Visa Versa)

I am wondering because I can then easily copy the entire photo library over to the PC and continue working / viewing / backup my photos there also.

Edit: Ooops, i think this should have been posted in "RAW, Post Processing and Printing" forum.

Ok. Can you tell me how Lightroom stores the files i import from my camera?
Does it use normal folders or does it create a library like aperture does?

It uses normal folders, but so does aperture. The library file is just a pseudo package for the actual folders so as to keep it clean.

Right click on the aperture library and show package contents.

LR doesn't store the images at all. It's a database containing references to their location on disk (along with metadata, edits saved as "instructions" not actual image data... etc.)

You could have your images scattered throughout your disk, and have LR leave them where they are. That gets to be a mess, however, so I have LR automatically MOVE my images upon import into a set Folder structure under My Pictures -> YEAR -> DAY. (It will create the folders it needs for me based on the capture time of my images.)

So to use on both machines, you need access to your actual images and they need to be kept in same folder structure on each machine. (Either duplicated on each, or use a shared drive.) That way the references in the LR database would be valid when you copy it over.
