I am assumming you are using Windows? And if you are then it does not reconize a RAW file as a image so when you have them in a folder it will not show a thumbnail like a Jpeg or something would.

Not sure what editing software you use, but i prefer using Adobe Bridge when i want to browse through my images looking for something.

If you are using Windows. I would suggest using Adobe Bridge as mentioned or trying using Lightroom to convert them. But DPP should give you the option to save as a jpeg. I konw it does when I used DPP on my Mac.

Why do you want to email the RAW file to someone?

you can probably go to the canon site.. and download a RAW codec, so your computer will reconize it. you shouldnt have a problem with it after that. and you should be able to email the raw image, and all that other good stuff too.

The point of RAW is to give you the ability to process your image to its fullest, the RAW file captures everything as its seen through the lens instead of what the camera thinks it see's giving you more to work with when you post process the image.

Email someone a RAW file would be like giving your client the Negitive slide from the old 35mm days. You need to Process your RAW file.

Which means YES you need to open your raw file apply the process needed to it and then save it in the image format you wish depending on how much compression you want applied ( Jpeg, tiff, BMP, ect.. )

If you are looking to have a RAW file and a smaller thumbnail you can email people or use to browse through your images faster you might want to shoot RAW+Sjpeg.

I truely think you need to read up more on what RAW is and how it works to get a better understanding of what some are trying to say.

I don't care about being able to view a thumbnail of my RAWs in Windows Explorer. I always browse my images in CS3 Bridge. Again, why do you want to email the RAW file to someone? The answer to that question will enlighten us as to what you know (or don't know) about what RAW actually is...
