Wow this threadf has grown in a short time. Did I miss a photo some where? I agre....never email a RAW file. If you want to email. Then just change the setting in the menu and set them to jpg shooting mode. Shoot in jpeg until you can understand what RAW will do for you and how you can bennifit from it. when I first started shooting in RAW I read everything I could and then switched to shooting in RAW after I had the correct programs to process them in.

The easiest way is probably to shoot RAW + JPEG in camera. Then send the JPEG

Failing that, export from DPP to your post processing software and after reducing the image size to something the web can handle, then "save for web".

I honestly have no idea why ppl have an issue with the OP trying to view or even email his RAW file. I got a brother-in-law who has a 10d and if he wanted to see my RAW file, I would email or file transfer to him with no issues. If he couldn't view my CR2 file, I would tell him to try out Digital Photo Professional (DPP). So, why its anyones business why isn't helping the OP with the issue. If he/she sends the file (if it can be sent due to its size) and the recipient can't view it, then, thats his/her problem. At that point, I would tell the OP to use DPP and convert to either Tiff or Jpeg. Then again, I would rather help instead of complain that the poster doesn't understand RAW.

As for the help side, what operating system are you using? Did you download the filter from Canon http://www.usa.canon.com …d=17316#DownloadDetailAct (external link) ? In the "select OS" dropdown box pick your Windows OS. It will show you the RAW Codec 1.4. Download that. When you download it, double click it and install. It should tell you to reboot your computer. Reboot. When its boots up you should be able to open the location you saved your RAW files and you will see them as thumbnails. If you aren't, you may need to Right-click some free space within that folder and select View/thumbnails. That should work. If not, it might be either your files are busted for some reason, or, your OS. Hope you get it worked out.

Or you could just view them all in DPP and remember (or write down) the file names to send. Happy shooting.

Jetboy,

The thing that came up was the OP does not understand RAW. They are asking why shoot raw if you just have to convert it to use it. As seen here

It was also suggested that a RAW file might be too big for the ISP to actually email them out.

and finally they where trying to figure out why the RAW file was not showing the thumbnail image and asking if they ahd to create a thumb nail to view them and it was then suggested that the RAW file is not an actual reconized image file.

Guys, let's keep this friendly.
Remember: We all were newbies once.

To the OP:
Why not just convert the Raw to jpg for mail or, alternatively, use the software that came with your camera to sort the images, then use a service like yousendit.com to post the CR2, and mail the link to the one you want to send the file...

Since I also don't "entirely" understand RAW, I do know that I want a unadulterated image for my files since I don't have a need to post process and convert all of my images. I took the OPer's comment to be something to that affect. I could have been wrong. I just figured instead of 3 pages of "why's" and "you don't understand RAW" I would try to tell the OPer how to see them in Windows XP or Vista. Seemed easier to me than finding out why he/she is emailing the images or what type of cereal he/she had for breakfast. Oh, and I'm bored so I thought I would try to help.

That's the right attitude :)

The thread should be a bit easier to read now, and quite a bit shorter.

I've never understood why this site in particular seems to have an agressive streak. Hav'nt seen it elsewhere.
