Here is the thing, im going to lay it straight out.

I am the head photographer for my school district and I want to get some different shots for this years basketball season.

I need to mount a 1D Mark III with a 70-200mm USM (or another lens, suggestions?) straight down at the hoop on a basketball court. I will be attaching it to a metal beam, much like a rafter. What kind of clamps and other equipment (support wise) do I need to look into?

Thanks

2 Magic Arms, 2 Super Clamps, 3-4 ball bungees, and a wireless trigger such as a Pocket Wizard with the N3 Remote Trigger cord.

zeva,

the camera will be way above the hoop. It will be at least 10 feet above that.

Stick on the end of a monopod (with ball head) and you can lash it to pretty much anything and point it wherever you need.

2x Super Clamps, and 2x Magic Arms with 1x Manfrotto Camera Platform, Put the ends of 2 magic arms into the camera platform and a superclamp on the other end of each one, clamp the superclamps to two different rails (IE: Top hand rail and vertical support etc)

Then get metal safety cables.

Oh and Public Liabilty insurance is a must.

There has to be another way to accomplish what you are trying to do!!

The liability involved may not be worth the effect you are trying to accomplish. Great thought though.

Variable Friction Arms are better than Magic Arms for this.
