hello all,

just wondered if anybody out there has had the same problem as me, only just got my eos 20d body back from lehmanns, after having to have a new shutter fitted (£163), the person who sold me it, said the camera had only done 7000 shots,ha ha ha, but who has not been on since i informed him of the problem.by the way, not off this forum... but thats another story.

well got it back, and tried it out this week with the grip it came with, which is a YXTM C40D.

My problem is that when using the shutter release button on the grip, while shooting in portrait format, the camera fires away no problem, but when i use the shutter release button on the body, it does not always fire straight away, sometimes it take a couple of seconds to fire and then it does not fire at all.

Any ideas, i have done the usual things new fully charged batteries, cleaned contacts on grip, etc.

before i decide to get rid of the grip, and use the camera on its own, i hope someone out there will give me the remedy to my problem.

If the grip shutter button works but the body one doesn't always, it sounds more like the body than the grip to me. To confirm that, try shooting without the grip at all and see if the shutter button plays up then.

So does the button on the body work normally when the grip is removed? Does it work when the grip functions are turned off (assuming it has a switch). It could be the shutter button itself that's contacts are worn and in need of replacement. Failing shutter buttons are a common thing in a well used camera.

hello both, yes the camera works perfect without the grip attached.the camera has had a full service as well as the shutter being done, so i would expect lehmanns to have checked everything while they had it.cheers paul

That's wierd, I wouldn't have expected the grip to have any effect on the body shutter button since all it "should" do is replicate the connections that the body button makes - yet it does appear that yours does.
What happens if the grip is fitted but turned off? Does the body button still misbehave?

I know that with the grip I have for the 400D, if the shutter speed wheel is in between clicks, it will not let you fire with either shutter. try moving the shutter speed with the wheel on the grip and/or the body, and try again!

BTW, I have a Opteka Grip

Just a random suggestion, but you aren't in "one shot" mode and just not getting focus are you?

The plunger on the shutter release is broken or sticking.
It's relatively common and had it happen to my 30D a while ago as well.
You'll have to have it serviced. Sorry to hear about that.

They may not have checked the shutter release button or the shutter release button plunger may not been sticking that point.

I had exactly the same issue a few years ago with a 10D.
Sure enough it was a stuffed shutter button on the body.
All good after replacement.
