Is 2nd curtain sync with the Cactus v2s possible?

I can't seem to get 2nd curtain sync to work with my cactus trigger. I'm using a 430ex. I've tried setting it on camera and on the flash istself and I can't get it to work. The flash fires at the opening of the shutter and doesn't fire for the 2nd curtain.

Anyone else have this problem?

2nd curtain sync requires a dedicated flash (Canon EX and compatible flashes) connected directly to the hotshoe or via an off-shoe cord in order to work. So, you won't be able to use 2nd curtain sync with the 430EX off camera and triggered by an RF remote unit.

Yes, assuming it truly is ETTL compatible.

What does that mean?

I guess PacAce has some doubts about the Chinese copy of the Canon OC-E3 ETTL cord.

I have the same cord, and yes it is fully ETTL compatible.

No, I wasn't doubting the cord because it's a Chinese copy. Even Canon sells TTL cords which are not compatible with ETTL flashes. I was just implying that as long as the cord was not a copy of that non-ETTL compatible cord, then it should work.

Thanks msowsun. Just one question, are there any downsides to having a cord on the flash? I was planning to use the wireless setup for nightclub photography but I'd really like the option of having 2nd curtain.

As long as we are on the 2nd sync topic. I have a 1DMK2N and a 580 flash. Set the 1D to 2nd sync and it always flashes in curtain open...never close. What am I doing wrong? (Sorry about the hijack of the thread) Had the same question for a while.

There is no downside to using a cord other than having to watch you don't snag the cord on something or trip over it. You can also have the cord lengthened, or do it yourself. https://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=123662

Another option is to have a master slave setup with 2 Canon flashes (or an ST-E2 and a flash) and use "Radio Popper" brand wireless triggers. They are the only ones that support the Canon system. http://www.radiopopper.com/ (external link)

The 2nd curtain sync option on the camera is really next to useless because it only works with those flashes that do not have the 2nd curtain sync available on the flash itself, like the 420EX. Most of the EX flashes starting with the 430EX and up have the 2nd curtain sync available on the flash so it needs to be set there and not on the camera.

Thank you. I guess I will have to look into where that is located. I don't use flash much. I mostly do aviation photography. I know that flash has more bells and whistles than I will ever use...:D

On the 580EX, it's the second button from the right. it's the button that has an icon of a lightning next to the letter "H" and what looks like three arrow heads pointed to the right. Press that button and it'll cycle between high speed sync and 2nd curtain sync as indicated by the same icons displayed on the LCD screen. Just make sure that the flash is in normal operating mode instead of Master or Slave mode since 2nd curtain sync doesn't work in wireless remote mode.

Thanks for the link amadain, I just ordered one. The extra foot of lenght (compared to Canon's) seems appealing.

And thanks to Mike for testing it out for me.;)
