Hi, I was wondering if I should pull the trigger on a 40d with a 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 for $800.00.

By the way I know that it is legit and not a scam?

I would be upgrading from the Rebel XT...

At B & H Photo a new 40D is $873.

$800 for a 40D and 18-55mm lens for $800 sounds like a deal.

the 40d is from one of my friends who I know takes great care of his equipment, and it is slightly used, 1,200 shots approx.

Would this still be a good deal?

Yes, but sell that lens for whatever market value it has, ($60 to $80) I've seen, and get the IS version. But regardless, it's still a great deal. If not sure, check out the FS forums here and compare the avg asking price for similar setup.

Is the 40D still under warranty?

Deal sounds decent. Going from an XT to 40D is a significant jump and you'll love it.

It always seems that the $$ you spend on equipment is always a short term pain after you use the new equipment.

Assuming if you pay an extra $100-150 extra on taxes (dont know what state tax is?) on a new unit you'd have 1 year warranty. The kit lens in the deal isn't enticing since you should already have some sort of lens with your XT.

OR

the price you pay for the used 40D may leave you more money for an external flash (you have one?)
