I used to be, about 20 years ago. Before that, I used standard 8.

Super 8 is pretty straightforward, camera loads in about 2 seconds flat (open door, push cartridge in, shut door). The camera was also pretty simple to use.

I can't remember much detail about using it, I'm afraid.

What exactly do you want to know about shooting Super 8 film? I used to shoot Super 8. The camera I had was the one without the audio so I used to shoot the film while recording the audio on a separate stereo audio cassette recorder. I built myself a tone generator that turned on every time I shot the video and recorded the tone along with the audio (on separate channels) so that I could hopefully sync the sound to the film in post. This was in the mid 80's. I really couldn't do anything with the sound until I started dabbling with video editing software on the PC in the late 90's. I could then mix the audio to the video fully synchronized.

nice! i'm actually doing a video elective in class this term & we have to shoot a music video (so i'm not bothered about sound) & i was thinking of doing it on super 8 for the old school feel & grain...

& then i realised a few days ago that the lightmeter seemed to have stopped working -.-
i've changes the batteries but its still not moving :(

i've got a bolex 155 as well, so i might test on that instead.. though i think i'd prefer to use the canon.. i love old stuff!

Before you go off and shoot that Super 8 movie, make sure you find out where you can have the film processed. I'm not sure if you can still just drop that film off at your neighborhood drugstore anymore.

Good luck with your music video project. :)

Never got to super 8 personally, but as a small lad got to use (and later inherit) my dads Canon Canonet std 8 with attachable pistol grip.

Happy days of Kodak PO box 14, Hemel Hempstead, Herts and waiting for the film to come back. :D

Good luck, and thanks for bringing back some good times of movie film & old sheets for screens.
