I have recently moved computers and am now trying to create a very solid back up system. I back up all my files with numerous copies and will also keep a seperate back up drive at a different location and print as many photos as possible. ( Ive looked at the lightroom FAQ and it touches on my question but diverts before answering it).

What I would like to know is.... How do i back up the changes made by lightroom. As the program doesnt actually modify the file itself rather it makes extra file which it reads onto the program, where is all that info? Is that what it keeps in the "my picture" folder, the catalogue info. If this is so, is it just a case of reimporting that file into lightroom if something does happen?

Furthermore if any one can add any advice to further solidify my backup process please let me know.

Thanks in advance.

Adam

Either convert to DNG, or save the changes to the .xmp file

The .xmp file contains metadata for the image so you need to use it in combination with your original file. A .dng file contains both your image and the metadata.
